Slag off Apple to anyone and they will likely stare back at you in either total disbelief, or total agreement. This week we thought we would list a few important facts to remember when dealing with this company.
The cost. Apple is by far the most expensive product of its kind out there, whether you're buying a Phone, Tablet or Lap top. Apple are on average (according to Forbes) 55% more expensive than other brands with similar functionality; OK so they are aiming at the top end of the market in the way that, say, Calvin Klein does, but their market and brand dominance effectively squeeze anyother choice hitting the shelves, don't think this is true? OK so name one other brand of Music devise other than the Ipod?
Their products are not better than the rest. They might produce products that look slick and sophisticated but under the surface its all the same technology as their cheaper rivals struggling for shelve space. Want an example? OK after the Mac went out of fashion 25 years ago Apple switches to Intel micro chip technology on all its products which affectedly renders it the same as anyother PC as this is the technology used by Dell, Packard and all the others meaning sophistication, speed and memory are all the same.
After being fleeced over price for your new gadget you are now in a locked relationship with Apple at this point, need a new charger cable or any other add on, want to purchase on-line music? the only way to do this is via Apple related products and they are, as we all know 55% more expensive and with, you may also noticed, a tendency to be rendered obsolete every 3 years. Shops just stop selling chargers for your device don't they! And no that is not just a co-instance.
Apple has the cool "nerd" reputation after being started out of a garage by 2 budding enterprisers, so they have the American-dream back-story lending them further creditability, but Apple has, according to Oxfam, "more money than the US federal reserve" and with this could "end global poverty and still have change to keep trading". But what does Apple do instead? They partner up with Chinese companies using child labour to build their products and who have been sited by UNICEF as "a disgrace to human rights". Doubt this? OK so google the words "foxxconn suicides" to get the details of the conditions that these children work in.
No one can deny that the Apple brand is a status symbol, or that their products look great. But they are also overpriced, no better than their competitors and frequently made in Hellish labour conditions. Fact.
