Created in 2002 to celebrate the anniversary of The Queenâ??s coronation, it is the MBE for volunteering groups.
Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods, Cllr Sue MacPherson said: "Now is the chance to nationally recognise the thousands of people and hundreds of groups across the borough that go above and beyond in service of their community.
"These people are our superheroes. Quietly getting on with their work because it is helpful to others â?? not because they are paid and not because it is recognised but because it is nice to be nice.
"Lots of these groups go under the radar without any appreciation â?? as so often is the case with volunteers â?? but I really want to encourage everybody to take the time and nominate groups and give them the thanks they deserve."
The closing date for the 2018 QAVS awards is the 15 September 2017. You can nominate at qavs.direct.gov.uk
