Over the last few months civil enforcement officers have visited the road on a weekly basis issuing 129 Community Protection Warnings telling drivers to move on, 18 notices to those that didn’t heed the warning and fining 2 drivers and 5 companies that refused to move after being given a warning and a notice.
Physical measures being trialled include installing bollards and double height kerbs, moving a guard rail and removing a right turn lane used by lorry drivers.
Cllr Aaron Watkins, portfolio holder for environment and highways, said: "The number of warnings, notices and fines issued demonstrates just how seriously Thurrock Council takes this issue and sends a clear message to drivers, and the companies they work for, that we will not tolerate inconsiderate parking in the borough.
"As well as enforcing, we are now planning preventative measures to stamp this problem out once and for all. We are doing all we can to stop them from damaging our verges and cycle paths.
"This is part of an ongoing process as we work to find a way to resolve this issue."
Schemes set to be trialled at The Manorway are:
- installing bollards and double height kerbs along parts of the cycle route
- moving a guard rail to stop vehicles parking next to Thames Haven Road
- preventing vehicles from turning around in an emergency access road into DP World, which lorry drivers use to make The Manorway a more convenient place to park
