One of the oldest and most converted Castles in the country, Dover Castle stands overlooking Dover, the Chanel and more significantly for its time, over France, it's 90 minute drive away from Grays but worth it when you get there. The tickets are a bit expensive but once inside the halls and structure are superbly preserved and this includes excellent historical coverage and even an amusing theatrical experience with King and Queen in their Court. There are transports inside via their own buses; the children will love the interactive nature of the experience the surroundings are also stunning to take in.
