If you're new to the area you may in your exploration happen up-on the name Langdon Hills, people who've lived here for years and show a reluctance to get off the sofa for anything other than the pub will also be new to this name. It's a delightful collection of hills and parks scattered around the Langdon area (heading towards Basildon). We always make a point of writing and featuring it here on ingrays as it's so close and so very different from any outdoor experience the immediate local area can provide. Here we zone in on a part of it called Westley Heights.
This is a small park that incorporates fields, woods, the most wonderful children's play area and some lofty and spectacular views of the Essex area - you'll be surprised how countrified Essex actually is.
As soon as you get out of the car in the car park you are likely to see (on a hot day) groups of friends and families having a Bar-B-Q's in the adjoining field. You will also notice how well kept and manicured this area - no little or dog mess ! and it's a huge credit to the park rangers that maintain this space. This greeting alone should indicate that you are in an area a little bit special. The walk around the area takes you through hidden fields and grassy dykes and slopes, and little forests, providing you with the quintessential outdoors experience without having to really mount anything remotely taxing, and whatever path you choose it returns you to your car via a well-positioned and much appreciated ice cream van.
Anyway, we offer it here in case you never knew of it before. The kids will especially love it.
The main car park is off the High Road, Basildon, SS16 6HU
