Police attended the scenes of three fires between 2.20am and 2.45am following reports from the fire service and local residents. The fires were started in the Vicarage Square, Conway Gardens and Hathaway Road areas of Grays. Several vehicles, car ports and a bin shed were damaged by the fire and several properties had to be evacuated as a precautionary measure. Fortunately no one was injured. Officers are working with the fire service to establish the cause of these fires, which appear to be linked.
Investigating officer DI Jim Adams said: "We would like to establish the reason behind these attacks and we are keen to hear from anyone that might have information regarding the identity of those responsible.”
