It's not too late to be an Animal Agent this summer

If you've been away on holiday or haven't heard yet, there is something strange going on in libraries this summer.

Medals, certificates and special bags are being given out to children across Thurrock as they take part in the popular 'Animal Agents' Summer Reading Challenge.

As an extra incentive, Thurrock libraries have teamed up with Colchester Zoo to offer a special voucher â?? one child goes free with two adults â?? for agents who complete the challenge by reading 6 books over the summer.

If you want to get closer to the animals there are also 'Lion Learners' events going on in libraries, where children can meet and handle a tarantula spider, a bearded dragon, rabbits and more â?? learning about these animals, their special skills, and finding clues to discover which animal stole Lauraâ??s lunch.

Cllr Sue MacPherson, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods said: "The sessions which have already taken place are proving hugely successful. Getting children excited about reading and learning in their local library is so important.

"The library team is doing an excellent job dispelling old myths that local libraries are only full of dusty old books â?? they are wildly exciting, informative and inspiring for children."

Book quickly though as spaces are limited. Tickets cost Â?4 per child, plus one accompanying adult.
