Working in the Mechanical Engineering department at the Southeast Terminals within the Tarmac Cement & Lime division this is an exciting opportunity to learn about everything within plant, production and operations through to the final leg of the journey to our customers where the product may be used to build one of the hundreds buildings which Britain is built on.

Our Mechanical Apprentice will spend time across different areas of the business within Operations. You will be assigned a mentor who will liaise closely with you in your day-to-day work and you will have a training and development plan outlining all you need to know and do

As an apprentice your work could involve:

  • Carrying out fault finding on  equipment, diagnostic testing and repair
  • Condition monitoring of equipment
  • Assist in design and build of new equipment when required
  • Planned and preventative maintenance tasks
  • Monitoring equipment efficiency
  • Repair and installation of equipment
  • Review and monitor site based maintenance systems and processes

This will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to be an expert in your chosen field.

The first year salary whilst at full time college will be approximately  ?12,878.82 per annum (pay award pending) with increases each each year until completion of the 4 years.

Working Week

Whilst in your first year you will attend college full time and during holidays you will be expected to work at the West Thurrock Terminal

Monday ?? Friday, 08:00 ?? 16:00 with a 15:30 finish on a Friday totally 37 hours.

Full time college first year followed by day release in years 2,3 & 4.

Year 1 - PEO (Performing Engineering Operations

Year 1 / 2 - BTEC Level 3

Year 3 /4 - HNC

Year 4 - NVQ 3

There is an opportunity for the successful Apprentice to progress onto the HNC and HND Programme  therefore it is preferred that entrants have at least five GCSEs (A*- C) including English and Maths. Other equivalent qualifications may be accepted.


Beginning of June 2017.
