Thurrock Catering Services provides Gold Food for Life, award winning lunchtime meals at 30 Primary Schools, 2 Special Schools, 2 Secondary Schools within the Borough, serving in excess of one million meals each year to children and school staff. Due to the Universal Free School Meal’s for KS1 pupils and continued expansion and growth of our service, an opportunity now exists to work in a friendly and flexible environment within two of our primary school kitchens in Thurrock.

These roles are part time with hours varying between 10 – 15 hours per week, you will also be based in one of the following schools in the Borough; St Mary's, St Joseph's, Grays Convent, Arthur Bugler, Orsett Primary and Tudor Court.

We are looking for strong, experienced Catering Assistants with a passion for good nutritious food and a positive ‘can-do’ attitude!

You will be required to help organise, arrange and supervise all activities in the school kitchen, counter display and dining room area.

You will need to promote and support the service by keeping abreast of new products, promotions and any changes in legislation.

Your main responsibilities will be:



Promotion of the Catering Service and supporting the Head of Kitchen to keep abreast of new products & legislation,

Support the Head of Kitchen and Catering Services to organise and deliver a high standard of service and customer care

Support the Head of Kitchen with food preparation and cooking as required

Participate in annual appraisals and any training required

Support the Catering Service to increase uptake and business growth



Full workplace training will be given, which includes food hygiene and safety training. A flexible approach with a can do attitude is required together with a pleasant personality and excellent customer care ethics.

A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check at an enhanced level is required for this role.
