An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the existing Education Welfare Service within the Children’s Services Directorate of Thurrock Council.

As an Education Welfare Officer (EWO) you will be committed to working closely with parents, schools and other agencies, both internally and externally, to address all matters relating to irregular school attendance.

You will be the initial contact for our Elective Home Education families and you will be expected to contribute to the Thurrock School Improvement Agenda as well as the Thurrock Safeguarding Agenda.

The ideal EWO will be able to demonstrate:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Self-motivation as well as the ability to work in a Team

A commitment to working in a multi-discipline environment to achieve positive outcomes for children

Experience of working in a school environment or with families in a similar context

Understanding of the Education Act 1996 and relevant legislation and statutory powers.

Ability to work to tight deadlines keeping accurate case notes.

A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Enhanced level check is required for this post.
