Description

Thurrock is home to one of the most exciting regeneration programmes in the country and continues to attract significant public and private sector investment. Our regeneration programmes are expected to deliver 18,500 homes and 26,000 jobs by 2021. This scale of growth brings its own challenges and currently Thames Gateway South Essex is generating 13% of the East of England’s industrial and commercial carbon emissions.

Responding to this challenge Thurrock and partners across the South East Local Enterprise Partnership have secured European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) resources to introduce the ‘Low Carbon across the South East’ (LOCASE) Programme. This programme will support a shift towards a low carbon economy through targeted business support, knowledge transfer and grants.

With an excellent track record in ERDF programme delivery Thurrock is taking the lead in delivering one of the key work packages in the LOCASE Programme. We are, understandably, very keen to maintain our excellent track record and are looking for an exceptional ERDF Business Energy Advisor to join our team. Our ideal candidate will have:

Good knowledge of the Low Carbon policy agenda and related environmental initiatives in respect of business efficiency, locally, nationally and in Europe;

Knowledge and understanding of European Structural Investment funds, especially ERDF;

Experience of influencing, giving advice to and building effective relationships with local businesses and business organisation;

Experience of conducting energy audits (diagnostics) within businesses, interrogating data and producing high quality energy efficiency analysis and reports; and

Experience of economic development programmes.

The Business Energy Advisor will be part of the project delivery team and will liaise closely with ERDF delivery teams across SELEP’s Growth Hub network. They will need to ensure that project activities related to diagnostic assessment and energy efficiency advice are delivered effectively across the BEST Growth Hub region (Essex, Southend and Thurrock) and that agreed outputs are achieved. They will be expected to divide their time between the Civic Offices in Grays, BEST Growth Hub in Southend, and attending business premises and events across the region to support the delivery and promotion of the project. The initial contract duration is expected to be for 6 months with the prospect of extension.

Please be aware that Thurrock Council are undertaking a pay review which will affect the grading of this vacancy – full details will be provided at conditional offer stage to the preferred candidate
