We are seeking to appoint a qualified teacher of Spanish, French, Latin or Mandarin to join our academy in September 2019 as Subject Leader for Languages.
As the lead in a crucial team, the successful candidate will help to shape the future of the subjects, the department and the academy as a whole and therefore to progress rapidly both as an educator and a leader.
The post will involve ensuring quality of delivery, assessment, achievement and progress in languages at Harris Academy Riverside in years 7 to 11. Planning and delivery of French, Spanish, Latin and Mandarin and the personal and professional development of leaders is supported at our academy by expert consultants from The Harris Federation. The academy is also committed to providing opportunities where it can to facilitate the academic learning of languages for those students who already speak a second language (for example Lithuanian, Polish and Russian).

Applications are welcome from experienced teachers of Spanish, French, Latin or Mandarin with a track record of impact, lead practitioners and Heads of Department (or aspiring to these positions) who are committed and passionate about languages and its impact on the overall development of students and who share our belief that every student can and should achieve.
Applicants should have an engaging love of subject and an unwavering belief in the ability of pupils to exceed expectations. Candidates should have a drive to understand the thinking processes and drivers necessary for success in languages in addition to the intellectual and psychological barriers to the learning of languages and be prepared to research and strategize to ensure that students make the best possible progress.
As a leader the successful candidate should recognise the need for students to develop outstanding habits of behaviour and learning and therefore be prepared to think outside of the languages disciplines in order to achieve these aims.
You must hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree to be considered for this role.

About Harris Academy Riverside
Harris Academy Riverside is an oversubscribed, recently opened academy which will cater for years 7 and 8 in 2018/19. Run by the same experienced leaders as Harris Academy Chafford Hundred, the school's permanent site will be at the heart of the regeneration of Purfleet town centre. For the first two years, the school will have a self-contained area on the top floor of the newly built Harris Primary Academy Mayflower in Chafford Hundred.
