One of the biggest forms of cancer in UK men is prostate cancer. Some simple facts from the NHS are –
1 in 8 men in the UK will get diagnosed with it at some stage that risk doubles in Black men (no one knows why).
70 -74 is the most common age to get diagnosed.
10,500 men a year die from this cancer.
Over 330,000 men in the UK are living with or after treatment of PC.
It is the most common form of cancer in the UK.
It is the most easily treatable form of Cancer that is so long as it's detected early.
In the telegraph this week a report on new findings from the ICR (institute of Cancer research) in London offers good news. Scientists from the ICR have isolated a genetic deficiency in sufferers meaning that simple screening could be developed to spot those individuals who will develop this cancer in the future. By looking at the DNA make up of an individuals saliva they have isolated a genetic deficiency  that is a common factor (something referred to as BRCA2) leading scientist to conclude that they can screen individuals early for this gene code then then they could tell well in advance those individuals set to develop the cancer in the future. The gene BRCA2 is simply a genetic make-up that is unable to attack any small tumour activity in the body's cells and so allows the cancer mutation to grow; according to the telegraphs report.
The research is in its early stages but it is a similar process that actress Angelia Jolie went through (it's even referred to as the "Jolie Gene" as she was one of the first to go through this screening process) and it is why she went on to have a hysterectomy as she was advised that the chance of developing ovarian cancer was well in the 80% bracket. Promising news but the research continues.
