Thurrock Council is working with councils in south Essex on a project to support the training of 650 people for jobs in the construction industry by 2020.
It follows a successful bid for £1million of funding from the Construction Skills Fund and will see 3 construction hubs created, including one in Thurrock.
Anyone who is interested in a career in the construction industry is encouraged to visit the council's Inspire Youth Hub in Orsett Road, Grays, any Tuesday to Friday between 9:30am and 5pm. No appointment is necessary and the programme is open to anyone aged 19 to 67.
Those who sign-up will get:
- information, advice and guidance on construction careers
- trade skills training
- a health and safety / Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card
- experience working on an operational construction site
- support to find work
Cllr Mark Coxshall, portfolio holder for regeneration, said: "Thurrock is one of the largest growth areas in the UK and we have a hugely ambitious regeneration agenda, with £20billion of planned investment in new jobs, homes and infrastructure in the coming years.
"We want to ensure our residents are equipped with the skills needed to capitalise on those growth plans and clearly construction is one of the main sectors in which jobs will be created locally.
"This new programme is incredibly exciting and I would encourage anyone who is interested in a career in construction to get in touch to find out more about the excellent help and support available."
