We all think we will live to be a 100 these days? But why?


There are a number of factors feeding this notion. Better standard of living, medical breakthroughs etc. but there is plenty of evidence to suggest that there are contributing factors that we ignore that can be having a detrimental effect on us.
We have not the space to go into all of them here but there is growing research showing that the social life and interaction you engage in greatly affects your life span.What do we mean by this? In simple terms it's about motivation and having something to get out of bed for. One of the biggest problems specified in the 2012 quality of life survey from retired people was a feeling of uselessness or pointlessness to the their lives. You hear and see it all the time, people who retire after a life time of toil and are dead inside 10 years. Could it be the day after day repetitiveness of having no goals or targets eventually eats away at the soul? 
A Japanese university in Osaka did an extensive study into the life of retired people in Japan over 4 years and while the study continues so far all the evidence shows that the people who live the longest into retirement are those who are most active and have some links to on-going projects of some description, it is not, surprisingly; connected to wealth or geography at all.
Certainly there might be some connection to being active and the fitness benefits this bestows on to you inadvertently but ultimately the gift of time may quickly turn into a personal prison if not managed in a measured way. Excessive alcohol consumption was also found to play a major factor as well in those who had too much free time on their hands creating health issues. Ultimately the findings show that people need to plan their retirement in a more serious way looking to "change gear" rather than stopping. Understand that while working life may create a chaos that makes retirement seem so idealic that going from one extreme to the other will not induce happiness. The research continues.
