Thurrock Council election results 2019

The results of Thurrock Council’s elections have been announced.



Elections took place in 16 of the borough’s 20 wards yesterday (Thursday, 2 May). The results mean there remains no party in overall control of the council, with the current breakdown of seats as follows:

  • 22 Conservative
  • 17 Labour
  • 9 Thurrock Independents
  • 1 Independent

One candidate was elected in each of the 16 wards, apart from in Chadwell St Mary where 2 candidates were elected after the resignation of Councillor Barbara Rice created an additional vacancy. Following the count, the outcome was as follows.

Conservatives:

  • 5 seats held
  • 1 seat gained
  • 2 seats lost

Labour:

  • 3 seats held
  • 2 seat gained
  • 1 seat lost

Thurrock Independents:

  • 2 seats
  • 3 seats gained
  • 3 seats lost

Independent:

  • 1 seat gained

Overall turnout was 26.88%.
