Volunteering is a fulfilling way for people to make a real difference to other peopleâ??s lives in their community and develop new skills and experience. There are a wide range of volunteering opportunities available from Thurrock Council that allow people to work on exciting projects or as part of groups across a range of settings.
Opportunities are available all year round, with positions being available in supporting youth clubs, helping out at Thurrock Museum, your local library, or even supporting conservation projects at Coalhouse Fort. The full list of volunteering opportunities in Thurrock can be found at thurrock.gov.uk/volunteering
Further opportunities for volunteering are also offered by:
- Thurrock Community and Voluntary Services (CVS) â?? a free service promoting volunteering opportunities across the borough
- ngage Thurrock â?? a community organisation working with people to help them play a bigger part in their local community
- Volunteer Essex â?? offering opportunities in Thurrock and across Essex
Taking place from 1 to 7Â June each year, Volunteers Week is a celebration of the contribution that millions of volunteers make across the UK. Alongside helping others volunteering has many benefits to individuals, helping them to build confidence, develop people skills and make new friends through valuable learning experiences.
Councillor Deborah Huelin, portfolio holder for communities, said: "It's important to recognise and thank the many people who put their time, energy and enthusiasm into supporting others in the community.
"We have more than 140 active volunteers supporting council services through a variety of roles across the borough and each and every one is an inspiration to us all. I invite everyone to think about how they could help people in our community, as together we continue to make Thurrock a thriving place of opportunity."
