Meal idea: Lasagne

Dare to try something new to cook with regular updated cooking ideas, suggestions and tips. We all have 2 or 3 dishes we can do well but this can get dull and repetitive fast, so time to broaden this out? Each week we feature new ideas of familiar dishes that are quick, simple and cheap to prepare.

Ingredients:

- 1 1/2 lbs lean ground beef

- 1/2 lb sausage (ideally Italian)
- 1 large onion, chopped

2 garlic cloves, crushed

- 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)

- 1 tablespoon dried parsley flakes

- 1 tablespoon dried oregano

- 1 tablespoon dried basil

- 2 (14 1/2 ounce) cans whole tomatoes, chopped

- 2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste

- 1 lb mozzarella cheese, chopped

- 12 -15 Lasagne sheets

- 1 big jar of Raguu white lasagne sauce


Method:

- in a large casserole dish heat a little olive oil and brown the beef, Italian sausage, onion and garlic.

- Add salt and next 5 ingredients; stirring until well mixed.

- Simmer 20 minutes.

In a lasagne dish put a layer of meat first then a layer of sheets, then a layer of white sauce (sprinkle a little mozzarella on the white sauce),


- do this for 3 layers


- grate a little cheddar cheese on top


Bake at 180C for 30 to 40 minutes. (or until the cheese bubbles and starts to brown slightly
